Child Entrepreneurship

Updated: Jun 15, 2021

As many of us are aware, starting a business is a pretty big deal, it requires deep understanding on the business and critical decision making on different issues concerning the business. By encouraging child entrepreneurship at an early age, we are assuring a future generation of business owners and pioneers of new businesses in the world. In the society today, it is clear that the traditional model of getting a university degree followed by a stable job and then a steady progression up the career ladder scarcely happens. This is the main reason why we started a program on entrepreneurship with the young adults in Arising Youths International.

Our next activity was dance, in AYI we believe that dancing is an excellent way to maintain or improve physical health as well as to produce positive emotions. Dancing also increases confidence and self-esteem in an individual while providing an outlet for self-expression. Freddy, our choreographer does a very good with the kids any time he gets

the chance to be with them. He taught us new dance moves and everyone was quick to learn. Ashley, used to be the shyest child around even during dancing. It would take some time to make her dance well, however, everyone was so amazed when it turned

out that Ashley is now one of the best dancers and the shyness is not there anymore. We staged a dance performance and did dancing battles after diving ourselves into two groups. Everyone enjoyed this session.

We had a big celebration to congratulate our 8th graders who had all done well in their national examination, and had been promoted to high school. We celebrate them since it had not been easy for this lot. When Kenyan schools closed their doors indefinitely in March last year, after the first cases of COVID-19 were detected in the country, there were no alternative learning options, the 8th graders were forced to be on a break for almost five months. This was a challenging period for them since not every child has the drive to study alone without the company of others and the guidance of a teacher. Finally the government considered their case and reopened schools for only 8th grade and form 4, so that they could study and prepare for the national examination. Just prior to the national examination date, the Covid-19 cases had risen in the country and in schools and these kids faced the threat of schools being closed again. This made preparing for exams for quite challenging for the candidates due to fear of the Covid-19 situation that our country was going through. Despite the global pandemic and all these challenges of multiple school closure, our candidates remained focused on the goal and successfully completed 8th grade. Kudos to our own.
